ATHENS - Summerville seems to fit A.J. Green perfectly; Athens apperently does, too. Taking out the obivous dominant team, green, and the ominous nickname, the Green Wave, this local South Carolina legend just fits this small town just north of Charleston, S.C. With his commitment to Georgia, Green will dress in red and black from now on.

The cheerleaders and fans even adapted several cheer for their outstanding player. Even now the sound of "When I say A.J., you say Green" and "A.J. Green, A.J. Green, A.J. Green" still echo somewhere in Summerville Memorial stadium.

Maybe Georgia fans should get used to that cheer, too. Green committed to play for the Bulldogs this weekend on his trip to Athens. Green is considered by many the top wide receiver in the Class of 2008 – perhaps the top player in the country.

Since his freshman year, Adriel Green has been the local town hero. Over his first two years in the historic Summerville program, the 6-foot-4, 190-pounder had 120 catches for over 2,000 yards in the four-wide shotgun offense and leading his team to the state championship game last year before falling to Gaffney. This season alone, Green is on pace to top the two thousand yard mark in receiving yards. In his game on Friday, Green moved much closer to jumping over that feat with a career night in the air, on the ground, and even with superb defensive play as a cornerback.

With his team down 21-0 in the second quarter, Summerville head coach John McKissick rode his star receiver to get back into the game as Green scored three touchdowns in the second quarter alone as Summerville stormed back to a 28-21 lead heading into halftime and never looked back.

"I didn't expect a game like this. I just came out and played to my game with them covering me in single coverage and that opened up the run," said Green.

If he was not tired enough after seven catches for 181 yards, six carries for 98 yards, and scoring five touchdowns on Friday night, Green was bombarded with questions after the game. Not just by reporters trying to find out how he does what he does or by the other team congratulating him on another unbelievable game, both of which did happen, but rather by the youngest fans in the stadium hoping for an autograph from the legend.

Lately a new quirk has appeared in what he is signing.

"Money," said Green when asked what the weirdest thing he signs. "That is something new, and I just don't get it."

While he may not get Green signing some green, What he does get is how to play the game, and McKissick, the nation's winningest football coach who has guided the Green Wave for over fifty years, believes Green is the best to come out of Summerville.

"A.J. is capable of doing what he did tonight anytime he gets his hands on the ball and I am glad that he got his hands on the ball tonight and did a lot of good things for us," said head coach John McKissick who is in his 54th season at Summerville. "We were not playing good offense or defense. All of a sudden we caught fire in the second quarter and everything went pretty good. Our offense picked turned it up and we scored four times in the second quarter."

Green, a Scout.com 2008 100 To-Watch member and early favorite for the nation's top prospect honors, ended he recruiting this weekend.

“I really like their coaching staff – they are real down-to-earth coaches," said Green. “The academic facilities and the weight room are really nice.”
