Ole Miss Week: Monday Practice Report

ATHENS - The Georgia football team began preparations on Monday for its fifth opponent and its second Southeastern Conference foe by practicing for 90 minutes at the Woodruff Practice Fields.

Tenth-ranked Georgia (4-0, 1-0 SEC) will visit Ole Miss (1-3, 0-1) on Saturday at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in a 9 p.m. contest. The Bulldogs are coming off a 14-13 win against Colorado. Ole Miss opened its season with a 28-25 win against Memphis, but has dropped successive games to Missouri, Kentucky and Wake Forest.

"It's tough anytime you face a team from the SEC, and it's even tougher when you face them on the road," Georgia coach Mark Richt said. "We've got a lot of respect for Ole Miss. We're happy to be 4-0, but we know we've got to keep practicing hard and working hard. We had a good start to the week with today's practice."

Richt announced the captains for Saturday¹s game will be Ken Shackleford and Martrez Milner on offense, Tony Taylor on defense, and Thomas Brown on special teams.

Georgia will play Saturday at Ole Miss. Kickoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. and the game will be televised by ESPN2.

On Monday, it was announced that the Saturday, Oct. 7, football game between Georgia and Tennessee in Athens will be televised by ESPN. Kickoff is set for 7:45 p.m. ET. This will be Georgia's second appearance on ESPN this season. The Georgia-South Carolina game also was televised by ESPN.

Also on Monday, quarterback Joe Cox was named the SEC Freshman of the Week as well as The Sporting News College Football Player of the Week. Cox came off the bench and threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes to help rally the Bulldogs past Colorado.
