Dawgs' D figures it out just in time

ATHENS – Colorado tight end Riar Geer and wide receiver Dusty Sprague combined to catch 10 passes Saturday, and all of them seemed to come from the same play.

Buffalo quarterback Bernard Jackson would roll either to his left or his right and find one of the receivers on the sideline over and over and over.

“Give credit to them,” Georgia linebacker Tony Taylor said. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. They ran it and ran it, and we couldn’t stop it. That’s just one of those things you have to work on.”

Defensive coordinator Willie Martinez said his team began to do a better job against the play in the second half.

“But I’m not going to sit here and say we were 100 percent at it,” he said. “You have to defend all the plays. You can’t just sit on that one play.”

Martinez credited Jackson with leading the Colorado offense. The junior had his best game by far in first-year head coach Dan Hawkins’ offense, throwing for 140 yards on 14-for-26 passing. That topped his passing total for the first three games combined.

“There were times in that game where that kid made plays with blitzing guys coming right at him,” Martinez said.
