The Bulldogs defense leads the SEC and is 2nd in the nation in points per game allowed. The most experienced part of the defense has been the linebackers. All 3 starters are seniors and have combined for 66 starts. Danny Verdun-Wheeler leads Georgia with 15 tackles and Jarvis Jackson and Tony Taylor are not far behind. Linebackers coach John Jancek talks about the group in this interview.
Dave McMahon
-- Have you ever been part of a team that posted back-to-back shutouts before?
John Jancek
-- I don't belive so.
DM
-- You must be pleased by the play of the linebackers so far...
JJ
-- They have been very solid. There has been a lot of good production from the group. They have also provided good leadership. They keep pushing themselves to get better.
DM
-- Now you
Dannell Ellerbe
back...
JJ
-- That is going to help our depth even more. He is very hungry.
DM
-- How much do you expect him to play on Saturday?
JJ
-- We will have to wait and see how he does in practice this week.
DM
-- Can you comment on the play of
Darius Dewberry
?
JJ
-- He has been doing a great job. He is very consistant. He is still learning and I think he is going to have a bright future at
Georgia
.
DM
-- After the
South Carolina
game did you and the linebackers have fun at Brandon Miller's expense on when he dropped the possible interception that he might have returned for a score?
JJ
-- We did, but we all know if Brandon had another chance he would take it the distance.
DM
-- Thank you for your time and answers.
