TOUGH DAY: Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford had to run 12 gasser sprints after Monday’s practice for his various miscues against South Carolina.

“The other team caught the ball a little too much,” said Stafford, who threw three interceptions.

The true freshman graded out at 65 percent, he said.

“That’s the worst game I’ve ever played,” he said. Joe Tereshinski, the Bulldogs’ starter until an ankle sprain shelved him for a month or more, declined to speak to the media.

ON THE EDGE: As far as cornerback Ramarcus Brown knows, he’s still a starter, despite the return from suspension of Thomas Flowers this week.

“I’m still working with the 1s,” he said.

Flowers is OK coming off the bench if he has to, he said.

“Who knows?” he said. “Ramarcus has done a good job in there. I just want to play.”

DELICATE SUBJECT: Coach Mark Richt is admittedly being very careful with the feelings of his quarterbacks. One reason Richt won’t name a clear-cut depth chart at the position is to spare the feelings of the player who ends up on the bottom, he said.

“These kids they’re great kids, but they’ve all got egos,” he said. “The minute I say who No. 2 is, then all of a sudden everyone huddles around No. 3 and says, ‘What’d do you think about that? Are you mad? Are you going to transfer?’”

ANOTHER HONOR: Defensive end Charles Johnson was named the SEC’s defensive player of the week for his effort against South Carolina. Johnson, of Hawkinsville, had four tackles for loss,including a sack and a safety, two quarterback pressures and one pass deflection in the 18-0 win.

COLORADO GAME TIME: Lincoln Financial Sports (formerly Jefferson Pilot Sports) has picked up its second Georgia game of the year. The network will broadcast the Bulldogs’ Sept. 23 home game against Colorado at 12:30 p.m.

Georgia’s season-opening win over Western Kentucky also was broadcast on Lincoln Financial.

MCSWAIN HONORED: Keith McSwain, a member of the 1980 national championship team and a letterwinner in 1983, has been named this year’s Bill Hartman Award winner. The Hartman Award goes to a former UGA athlete who demonstrates excellence in their profession or service after graduation.

McSwain is now the CEO of McCar Homes, which had an annual revenue of $550 million last year.
