UAB not settled on QBs

ATHENS – UAB coach Watson Brown has figured out a simple way to settle his quarterback competition at least for this week.

“I am going to start Sam on Saturday because he is from Georgia,” Brown said Monday at his weekly news conference.

The Blazers (1-1, 1-0 Conference USA) will play No. 10 Georgia at 1 p.m. Saturday in Sanford Stadium.

Hunt, a junior from Cedartown who transferred to UAB from Middle Tennessee State, started last week but was relieved by Chris Williams, who led a victory over East Carolina. Williams started the Blazers’ first game, and was relieved by Hunt, who played well against Oklahoma.

“I told them the other day, I don’t have a starter,” Brown said. “Both Sam and Chris are going to play. They’ve learned to drop their egos at the door. It is going to take them both to get the job done.”

Williams, a senior, got the first start of his career in 2003 at Georgia in a game the Bulldogs won just 16-13.

“Coming off the bench was much easier for me because when I came in the game, we saw everything the East Carolina defense was doing,” he said.
