The Blazers opened the season with a 24-17 loss against Oklahoma, which was ranked No. 10 at the time. That is the same ranking the Bulldogs will carry into Saturday's game. Last week, UAB topped East Carolina 17-12.
"We've got a heck of a challenge on Saturday," Georgia coach Mark Richt said. "UAB is very talented and has a good football team. We had a good day of preparation today, but we've got to keep our focus throughout the week to get ready for a tough, tough opponent."
Before practice, Richt excused one of the Scholar Dog Teams from having to go through the team's agility drills. The Bulldogs are broken into the Scholar Dog Teams, and one group per week will be rewarded for its success in the classroom. On Monday, the players excused from the agility drills were Gordon Ely-Kelso, Demiko Goodman, Bernard Jackson, Andrew Johnson, Joseph O'Keefe, Jeff Potterbaum, Ian Smith, Danny Verdun Wheeler, Na'Derris Ward, Marcus Washington and Ben Wilson.
Earlier on Monday, it was announced that Johnson, a junior defensive end, had been named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week. Johnson had five tackles, including four for loss, and he stopped a South Carolina back in the end zone for a safety. Also, it was announced that Lincoln Financial will televise the Bulldogs' Sept. 23 game with Colorado. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
