COLUMBIA, S.C. – Joe Tereshinski’s status for Saturday’s game will become clearer after an MRI today.

Tershinski left Georgia’s 18-0 win over South Carolina after one series due to a right ankle injury. Joe Tereshinski Jr., an assistant coach with the team, said X-rays of his son’s ankle showed no broken bone but added that it’s still unclear if there is bone or ligament damage.

“I have no idea” how bad it is, Joe Tereshinski III said as he walked off the field on crutches.

Freshman Matthew Stafford came into the game in place of Tereshinski and played well, but Coach Mark Richt indicated Tereshinski will remain the starting quarterback if he’s healthy enough to play against UAB.

“If he’s healthy right now, yeah he’s the starter,” Richt said.

Even Stafford was eager to see Tereshinski return.

“He’s a great senior leader for us, and we need him out there,” he said.
