C.J. Byrd
Dawg Post
Posted Sep 6, 2006

C.J. Byrd came to Georgia as a highly rated recruit. The South Carolina native was rated the 3rd best safety in the nation. Last season as a true freshman, Byrd had 8 tackles and won the Special Teams Newcomer of the Year Award. Last Saturday, he had 2 tackles in a reserve role. This weekend he will be playing for the first time in his home state. How will he do? We will soon find out.

Dave McMahon -- After a great camp, you were able to show what you can do in a real game, how did the first game go?

C.J. Byrd -- I am glad I got a chance, I am glad I can show the coaches what I can do in a game.

DM -- What about the whole defense... how do you think they did?

CJB -- I think they did a great job. The coaches gave us some praise, but they also said we made some mistakes, but they are correctable.

DM -- You have one year under your belt at Georgia, how would you rate some of the freshman... Asher Allen, Prince Miller and Donovan Baldwin?

CJB -- They looked real comfortable out there. They did well.

DM -- Are you excited about playing in your home state again?

CJB -- It is always fun playing in your home state again.

DM -- How many friends and family members will be there for you?

CJB -- I think 8-10.

DM -- Which players on their team you remember playing against?

CJB -- I remember playing against Sidney Rice my junior year and playing with Mike Davis in the Shrine game.

DM -- What is it about South Carolina's passing game that has the potential of being dangerous?

CJB -- They have a lot of threats. It is not just one weapon and their coach is one of the best ones around.

DM -- Do you remember your last interception?

CJB -- Today... in a game... I think it was... I can't remember.

DM -- How important is this game?

CJB -- It is very important. The winner gets a good start in the SEC East.

DM -- Thank you for your time and answers.
