WKU Week: Over/Under

ATHENS – Dean Legge takes a look inside the numbers of Georgia’s match up with Western Kentucky.

100 yards… Thomas Brown has not had a 100-yard game since the South Carolina game last season. Brown is expected to get the bulk of the carries Saturday.

200 yards… Joe Tereshinski had about 100 yards in the three games where he saw a lot of action. He’ll need to average double that this season for the Dawgs to be effective. Less than a 200-yard day will get the message boards stirring.

35 points… That’s how many points the Bulldogs are averaging against out-of-conference opponents in Athens.

143.85 yards… That’s how many rushing yards these Bulldogs allowed last season. It has been the defense’s goal so far this fall to get average that closer to the averages from 2001 to 2003.

More than two… if Georgia allows more than two sacks their offensive line has had a bad day… if the Georgia defense has allowed more than two scores they have had a bad day… if more than two Bulldog quarterbacks play Saturday Matthew Stafford might not redshirt.

Inside the numbers…

35… That’s how many more career starts Western Kentucky quarterback Justin Haddix than Georgia’s Joe Tereshinski. Haddix has started 36 games, while Tereshinski’s only start came last season against Florida.

20-2… That’s the Bulldogs’ record against out-of-conference opponents since Mark Richt took over as head coach in 2001. The last time the Bulldogs lost to at home to a non-SEC school was in 2000 when George Godsey and Georgia Tech ran right past the Dawgs 27-15. The Bulldogs have not lost a season opener since dropping their meeting with Southern Miss in 1996. That loss was Jim Donnan’s first as head coach.
