Barnes: "I am at Georgia for good"

ATHENS – Mark Richt still is working on how to juggle his quarterbacks in Saturday's season-opener.

Senior Joe Tershinski will start against Western Kentucky and be relieved by redshirt freshman Joe Cox, and Richt expects to insert Cox in the game when he feels it the right time rather than script a definite series for him to enter the game before it begins.

"By the end of the week, we might try to get a little structure in there, but I don't know that yet," he said Monday.

Cox expressed no preference on the rotation after Monday's practice.

"I've got to be ready for anything," Cox said. "I'm going to have to keep my head in the game the whole time."

Richt also didn't rule out playing either sophomore Blake Barnes or true freshman Matthew Stafford, although quarterbacks coach Mike Bobo said last week that Georgia will play only Tereshinski and Cox in the opener. If a third quarterback does play, it's more likely to be Barnes because Stafford would lose a redshirt season by taking any snaps. "That's definitely been thought about," Richt said.

For his part, Barnes said he decided over the weekend not to transfer from Georgia.

"I'm here for good," he said. "I still feel like this is the place for me." Recommended Stories
