Dawgs take first day of classes off

Posted Aug 16, 2006

ATHENS - Wednesday was the first day of the fall academic semester at the University of Georgia and head football coach Mark Richt decided it was the perfect time to give his team a break from the practice field.

The Bulldogs have practiced at least once on 10 of the last 11 days.

"They've worked hard in pre-season camp, and we felt like it was time to give them a day off," Richt said. "Hopefully, this will give them a little juice. They looked a little tired, a little ragged. The first day of school is always tough and a bit of an adjustment so we decided to meet with them for a couple of hours and just let them go.

"We're having a special teams kicking scrimmage on Thursday and our second full scrimmage on Friday. This should help them be ready for those," said Richt.
