2006 Fall Camp: Day Eight News and Notes

ATHENS - Josh Kendall's news and notes after Georgia's first scrimmage of fall camp.

SEASON-ENDING INJURY: Richt announced the season-ending injury of junior wide receiver T.J. Gartrell, who tore his patella tendon during Friday’s practice. Gartrell, the son of Stephenson High School coach Ron Gartrell, has four catches for 97 yards in his career.

STEPPING UP: Sophomore Demiko Goodman hasn’t done much in his Georgia career. In fact, he’s yet to catch a collegiate pass, but the former high school track star drew praise from Richt and several teammates Saturday.

“Today he was really making some great catches and getting a lot of yards for our team,” Cox said.

Mario Raley caught Barnes’ touchdown pass, a 10-yard fade route.

DYNAMIC DUO: So far this fall, starting defensive ends Quentin Moses and Charles Johnson are practicing exactly like their coaches hope they play.

“Quentin Moses and Charles Johnson have pretty much been slinging people around the whole time,” Richt said.

There also may be a successor in the making. True freshman Kiante Tripp, 6-foot-6, 244 pounds, has impressed at least senior defensive tackle Ray Gant.

“Kiante has the body of a God,” Gant said. “He’s having a real good camp so far in my opinion, but I’m not a coach.”

LINEBACKER SHUFFLE: After working out as a backup on the weakside for several days, Brandon Miller was back in the starting strongside linebacker’s while warming up for Saturday’s scrimmage.
