Marcus Washington
Dawg Post
Posted Aug 10, 2006

Last season Marcus Washington played in 12 games for the Bulldogs and he was just a true freshman. Now with a season under his belt, he is expected to contribute a lot more. Currently, he stands as the number two Mike Linebacker behind Jarvis Jackson. I had a chance to talk to him about the linebacker position and this is what he said.

Dave McMahon -- How has practice been?

Marcus Washington -- It's been good, pretty good. I am excited now because we are having more contact.

DM -- What is the role of the "Mike" linebacker?

MW -- They are the leader of the defense. You have to make sure the team is set and the know what they next play is.

DM -- Who is your favorite "Mike" linebacker in the pros?

MW -- I like Ray Lewis. He is so intense on the field.

DM -- You played last season as a true freshman, how much did you learn last season?

MW -- I learned a lot. I am always learning. I felt real comfortable after camp last season and the coaches saw that.

DM -- What do you still have to work on?

MW -- I have to work on my endurance. I have to be in better game shape.

DM -- There are 4 new freshman linebackers that are hungry to play... how are they doing?

MW -- They are working very hard. They are doing well. Everyone wants to play, but it is up to the coach who plays.

DM -- Even though you are just a sophomore, are you a leader to them?

MW -- A little bit. I always willing to help them. Even after a year I still ask for advice from Jarvis, Tony, Danny or Brandon. We all help each other.

DM -- Thank you for your time and your answers.
