2006's big question: Will Leak finally lead Florida to a championship?
Inside the numbers vs. Georgia (as seen in the upcoming Dawg Post 2006 Season Preview):
That's how many times Georgia has outscored Florida in the fourth quarter of games since 1998. The #4 Bulldogs outscored the #21 Gators 10-6 in the fourth quarter of the 2003 game, but still lost 16-13. Since 1998 Georgia has been outscored 59-23 in the fourth quarter of their games against Florida. The Gators have held Georgia scoreless in the fourth quarter five times (2005, 2002, 2001, 1999 and 1998) in that same time period. Florida has scored at least six points in the fourth quarter of every game except one (2005) against Georgia since 1998.
SEC Media Day's quotes to note:
"The 1992 class won SEC and National Championships - that's a great recruting class. I can tell you more about our most recent class in three or four years." – Florida Head Coach Urban Meyer on Florida's top-ranked recruiting class from 2006.
"We were not a great team a year ago. That team in the locker room after the Outback Bowl was close to being a gerat team. The University of Florida needs to get back to a championship game at some point." – Meyer talking about last season, and looking to the future.
"There is not a player on my team that I don't know everything I possibly can know about them." – Meyer in response to a question about if last year's Gators "bought in" to his system.
"I will fight for player I think deserve to be fought for. Chris Leak won more games last year than any other time in his career. The only correct criticism of Chris is that he's not won a championship." - Meyer on his starting quarterback.
