ATHENS - University of Georgia redshirt sophomore linebacker Dannell Ellerbe will be suspended for the first three games of the 2006 season as a result of an auto accident and subsequent alcohol-related charges last January according to UGA head coach Mark Richt.

"Dannell made a serious mistake that is not taken lightly,² said Richt. ³He will pay a significant price and I¹m confident he has learned an important lesson.² Richt said Ellerbe will also be subject to internal discipline.

The charges against Dannell Ellerbe have been heard and resolved by both the UGA Student Judiciary and the Athens-Clarke County authorities.

A native of Hamlet, N.C., Ellerbe played in 10 games for the Bulldogs last season as a backup linebacker. He recorded 15 tackles.
