Evans and Barnes Out for Spring

ATHENS - University of Georgia redshirt freshman cornerback Bryan Evans and redshirt sophomore quarterback Blake Barnes will both miss the remaining three days of spring practice due to injuries sustained in the Monday, April 3, scrimmage. Both are expected to have full recoveries and be ready for pre-season practice in August. The spring G-Day game is scheduled for this Saturday, April 8.

Bryan Evans sustained a cervical neuropraxia episode (also known as a spinal cord concussion) during the scrimmage. While attempting to make a tackle, he collided with another defender. He was transported to St. Mary's Hospital in Athens where he was evaluated by the team neurosurgery consultant and underwent diagnostic tests. Evans was kept overnight and discharged Tuesday. He will miss the remainder of spring football; however, a full recovery is anticipated and is expected to return to practice in the fall without limitations.

Blake Barnes struck his right thumb (throwing arm) on a defender¹s helmet while following through on a pass attempt also during the Monday scrimmage. Follow up examination and x-rays revealed a fracture of the tip of his right thumb. Due to the injury, Barnes is unable to grip a football and will miss the remainder of spring football practice. No surgery is required and a full recovery is anticipated.
