ATHENS – Roderick Battle spoke with Dean Legge for a short time about Georgia’s spring practices.

Dean Legge: How has your spring been so far?

Roderick Battle: I think that I have been doing pretty good so far. I still have a lot of stuff to work on. I have done well. I am gaining confidence. I am preparing myself for the fall.

What do you see your role as this fall?

I see it as me relieving guys that are tired. I want to play, and play when I am needed to play, and not allow a big drop off from the first team guys.

What have you noticed during your time in Athens about Charles Johnson and Quinton Moses that make them as good as they are?

Quinton is just really, really quick; Charles always plays with strength. If I could have either of those I believe I would be on a relatively successful road.

You are not quite as tall as Quinton is, but you are close in statue. Do you watch what he does when he is out there playing?

I watch him…

Are there little things you can pick up on?

His pass rush moves are good – that’s where I try to watch Quinton. I try to pick up on things that I can do.

Who is the most challenging offensive lineman for you to go up against?

I guess Ken Shackleford, but all of them look good.

What makes Daniel Inman impressive to you?

Just his experience – I could do something and he would counter it right back. I will take the lead with something, and he will come back with something he knows from the past. I think his strength is an asset to him, too.

What you are trying to get out of this spring – how do you show the coaches that you are ready to play?

Just make plays. I have to go out there and make plays – that’s what I am trying to do. I am trying to get them to notice.

How would you grade yourself so far this spring?

C.

Why so low?

Because I still have room to improve. I have not impressed myself – I don’t know. I have not been making plays – I have made a couple, but I have not made as many as I would have liked.
