Soccer Continues Spring Season

ATHENS The University of Georgia soccer team will continue its spring schedule Saturday, March 25, as Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) and North Carolina visit the Turner Soccer Complex. Georgia will take on UAB at 10 a.m. and then will face UNC under the lights at 7 p.m. UAB and UNC will face each other on Georgia¹s game field at 2 p.m. Admission to all Georgia soccer matches is free.

³This weekend presents a tremendous opportunity for us,² said Baker. ³It is really the only true college weekend of competition that we have this spring. We play two very good teams in UAB and the traditional powerhouse of North Carolina. It¹s a great chance for our players to get experience against some different players, different systems and different styles. To play against arguably the best women¹s soccer program in the country under the lights should be terrific.²

Saturday will mark Georgia¹s second day of competition during the spring season. On March 4, Georgia registered a 2-1 record, posting a 1-0 win over the Georgia ODP squad and a 3-1 victory over a combined age group Tophat team. The Bulldogs¹ loss came at the hands of Winthrop.

In the 2005 season, North Carolina posted a record of 23-1-1 and won the Atlantic Coast Conference title with a 9-1 mark. The Tar Heels, coached by Anson Dorrance, advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals, before falling to Florida State in penalty kicks, 1-1 (5-4). UAB finished the 2005 campaign with an 8-10-1 mark, going 4-5-1 in Conference USA.

Georgia soccer will be back in action on Saturday, April 1, as the Bulldogs host their annual Alumni game at 6 p.m. Originally the team was scheduled to participate in an international contest against the Mexican U-20 team, but that game has been cancelled.
