ATHENS – C.J. Byrd spoke with Dean Legge for a short time about Georgia’s spring practices.

Dean Legge: Tell me about how spring practice has been for you so far?

C.J. Byrd: It’s going pretty good. I am glad to get back to football.

What are you going to do during spring break not to loose momentum?

I am going back home, and I am probably going to work out at my school, run at my school (North Augusta). A lot of guys from other schools will be down there for spring break, too.

The safeties are a little more open this year compared to last year – there has been a pecking order in the past. What does that mean for you?

It means that I have to practice hard every day. I can’t be a sloppy player – up one day and down the next. I am just trying to stay consistent.

How do you jump into the starting lineup?

Be consistent. Making plays – keep on making plays.

What did you learn from Greg Blue when he was down here?

First of all Blue taught me how to hit.

He taught you how to it?

(Smiling) Just watching, and being around him and his ways – he’ll teach you how to hit. He taught me a lot about the defense while we were at practice.

Every year Georgia loses players, but they seem to stay at a high level. How do y’all continue to compete for the SEC in 2006?

It’s the coaches. They put us into position. Great coaches make great players.

Any observations about the quarterbacks?

I don’t know – they seem to be neck and neck.
