For the second time this year, Georgia freshman Courtney Kupets was named the SEC Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday by the league office.

Kupets is now second in the national rankings in the all-around after back-to-back wins in the four-event competition at No. 3 Alabama last Friday and at home against No. 6 Oklahoma on Sunday. In both victories she tied and then improved on a career high, winning the Alabama meet with a 39.475 before winning the meet with Oklahoma at 39.6. Her total against the Sooners is the best all-around score in the SEC, and only two other gymnasts in the nation have scored higher this year.

On individual events, she won the balance beam competition at Alabama with a 9.9 to help the Gym Dogs clinch a win by just .05 over their rivals. Against Oklahoma she again won the beam with a 9.925 and also earned first place on the floor exercise with a career-high 9.95.

Kupets is the only gymnast ranked in the top 10 nationally on all four individual events.

The Gym Dogs (10-0) are the nation¹s top-ranked team for the fifth week in a row including leading all teams on the vault, beam and floor. It is the first time Georgia has been ranked first on beam in the regular season since Jan. 21, 2002. Only Michigan ranks ahead of Georgia on the uneven bars.

Junior Kelsey Ericksen is right behind Kupets in the all-around rankings at No. 3 and also leads the nation on the bars and is fifth on beam. Sophomore Katie Heenan is ranked No. 1 on floor and No. 9 on the vault and freshman Tiffany Tolnay is No. 3 on vault.

Georgia hosts No. 9 UCLA at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night. The Gym Dogs and Bruins have combined to win eight of the last nine NCAA championships.
