Geno Atkins
is one of the top defensive linemen available in the Sunshine State for the class of 2006. On Wednesday morning he made his commitment to join the
Georgia
Bulldogs.
“I committed to Georgia. I liked the campus they have what I want to major in and I got along with the players and the coaches,” Geno Atkins said.
Georgia sealed the commitment last night during an in-home with head coach
Mark Richt
.
“What sealed it was I got a feel for all the coaches. They talked about the graduation rate and how the football team was a family. I also like the academic support they give all the athletes and stuff like that.”
What did he think of Mark Richt the individual?
“Coach Richt is a good person. He loves spending time with his players. Each position coach has a dinner with all of his players and I like that. Very down the earth.”
The facilities in Athens are some of the best in the conference and that wasn’t lost on Geno.
“The facilities are pretty nice. They say they want to reward their athletes so they give them top equipment and top facilities.”
Georgia’s depth has thinned out along the defensive front and Geno likes his opportunity at some early playing time.
“I see myself fitting in pretty well. They’re losing a couple people on the defensive line and they’re trying to rebuild so I’ll have a chance to play.”
What’s he looking forward to most about getting to Athens?
“Meet some new people and new coaches. I also want to meet some of the players and just get a chance to prolong my football career for a few more years.”
Geno Atkins is a big pickup at a need position for the Bulldogs…
