LSU Week: Matchup - In the trenches

Josh Kendall takes a look at the matchup between Georgia's offensive line and LSU's defensive line.

Georgia

This has been a year of vindication for the Bulldogs’ offensive line. Only Auburn has given up fewer than the 19 sacks Georgia has surrendered this year. Every starter on the line except for centers Russ Tanner and Ryan Schnetzer has been named SEC offensive lineman of the week at least once.

Senior Max Jean-Gilles, who is always aware of the pro implications of his matchup, gets another shot to show his stuff to scouts. The Tigers have 33 sacks this season, more than any team in the league except Auburn.

LSU

Russ Tanner feels like he’s answering the same question every week. What about those strong and fast defensive tackles across the line of scrimmage from you? This week it’s Wroten and Williams.

“They’re bulls,” Tanner said. The 290-pound plus seniors start the Tigers’ pressure up the middle.

They have combined for 16 tackles for loss and 46 quarterback hurries this year. LSU’s pass rush specialist is senior defensive end Melvin Oliver, who has nine sacks.
