ATHENS - News and notes from Georgia's big win over Kentucky.

ANOTHER BIG RUN: Sophomore tailback Danny Ware pushed Ely-Kelso’s run back one notch later in the game when he went straight up the middle for a 52-yard touchdown late in the second quarter. Like his punter, Ware found a wide open hole.

“You get a little nervous because you always see somebody on tape wide open like that, and they fall down,” Ware said. “Keep my legs apart and keep them moving, that’s all that was going through my head.”

Ware’s run was the longest by a Bulldog since Patrick Pass had a 58-yard touchdown in 1999.

NEW INJURIES: Senior running back Tyson Browning suffered a career-ending injury while returning a punt in the first half. Browning broke his left leg below the knee, Richt said.

Defensive end Charles Johnson of Hawkinsville missed the second half due to what he described after the game as a badly bruised shoulder. He was in a sling after the game, and his status for the Tech game is unclear.

“We’ll put an arm in a sling in a heartbeat around here so I don’t know how serious it is,” Richt said.

True freshman Tripp Chandler also was taken to St. Mary’s hospital for a test of some kind after he limped off the field late in the game.

OLD INJURIES: Linebacker Tony Taylor underwent surgery Friday to repair damaged meniscus cartilige in his knee. The injury was not as serious as team doctors had feared at first, but he still is expected to miss the next two games. He should be ready to play in Georgia’s bowl game, Richt said.

Safety Tra Battle (concussion) did not dress out for the game. He could return against Georgia Tech next week.

GAMBLING MAN: Frustration, Richt admitted, was the main reason Georgia attempted so many fourth down conversions. Whatever the reason, it worked as the Bulldogs were 3-for-4 on fourth down attempts. Georgia was 0-for-10 on third down.

The most questionable gamble came on fourth-and-5 from Kentucky’s 40-yard line.

“That was probably the dumbest call of the day, but that again was just frustration,” he said. “I didn’t want to (punt) it again.”

POSTSEASON BIDS: Georgia seniors D.J. Shockley, Tim Jennings, DeMario Minter, Greg Blue and Max Jean-Gilles all have been invited to the prestigous Senior Bowl. The game, which is played in Mobile, Ala., after the college season is over, is one of the most important games for NFL prospects.

SILLY STUFF: The Bulldogs were called for three personal fouls, one each on offensive lineman Daniel Inman, safety Greg Blue and linebacker Marcus Washington.

REUNION: Georgia recognized many members of its 1980 national championship team at halftime. The group is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its title.

THIS AND THAT: Bryan McClendon took Browning’s spot on the kickoff return team after Browning’s injury. ... Georgia’s 28 points in the second quarter were its most since a 28-point fourth quarter against Kentucky last year. ... Brandon Coutu’s 56-yard field goal was his second-longest of the season.
