ATHENS - Georgia safety Tra Battle wants to play in this week’s Kentucky game probably more than any in his career, but he may not get the chance.

Battle, a Mary Persons graduate, suffered a concussion “sometime” during the Auburn game, he said, and he sat out the No. 14 Bulldogs’ Monday practice session.

“There’s a possibility I could play this week,” he said. “I wouldn’t consider myself doubtful. If you talked to the doctors, they might.”

Battle is eager to return to the field to make up for his gaffe on the 62-yard pass that set up Auburn’s winning score last week. The senior had the responsibility for the section of the field where Devin Aromashodu caught the decisive pass.

“I blew the coverage,” Battle said. “I didn’t get to my proper landmark. I was sick after the game. I didn’t talk to anybody. I have to make up for that one.”

If Battle can’t play, sophomore Kelin Johnson will start in his place, defensive coordinator Willie Martinez said.

Tra Battle isn’t the only Bulldog whose in doubt for the game. Cornerback Tim Jennings, who missed the Auburn game due to an ankle sprain, sat out Monday and said he won’t return until he feels his ankle is at least 90 percent healthy. The good news for Georgia is that could be this week.

“I consider myself probable,” he said.

Defensive tackle Kedric Golston (ankle) practiced in a green jersey but said he’s “pretty sure” he’ll play against the Wildcats.

“They’re just trying to let it heal, get some strength back into it,” he said. “I’m going to have to get some more strength into it.”
