Auburn Week: Tuesday News and Notes Premium Story

ATHENS - News and notes from Georgia's practices.

POLL POSITION: Georgia fell seven spots in the Associated Press poll last week after losing to Florida by four points on a neutral field without its starting quarterback. Virginia Tech dropped just five spots this week after losing to Miami by 20 points on its home field with a mostly complete roster.

Richt passed on a chance Tuesday to comment on that disparity.

“I’m really not that concerned about it,” he said.

He also wouldn’t address the fact that a two-loss Notre Dame team is ranked higher than his one-loss Bulldogs.

“I think there are plenty of games to prove to whoever is voting that we deserve to move up,” he said. “I hope we’re talking about moving up next week.”

QUOTABLE: “I’m glad that (Saturday’s game) is at home even though I think we have a losing record at home,” Richt said. “I feel pretty good about it being at night, too. That’ll give the fans a chance to get every more excited. We’re going to need everybody to get this one done.”

THIS AND THAT: Aubie, the Tigers’ mascot showed up Tuesday at the Butts-Mehre building as part of a tour by Georgia and Auburn student government members. Auburn students took pictures with the mascots two floors above the Bulldogs’ practice. ... BET’s feature on quarterback D.J. Shockley will air Friday at 12:30 a.m. ... Place-kicker Brandon Coutu has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award. ... The first 5,000 fans at Saturday’s game will receive a free pocket radio as part of an Alfa Insurance promotion.
