Florida Week: Monday News and Notes Premium Story

ATHENS - News and notes from Georgia's football practices.

Georgia coach Mark Richt will have to answer plenty of quarterback questions this week, but at least he won’t have to answer the “When are you going to beat Florida?” question. That’s thanks to last year’s 31-24 win in Jacksonville, Georgia’s first in its last seven tries.

“Last year was huge for us to get that victory,” Richt said. “It was about the only thing we hadn’t done as a staff at Georgia, and, of course, it was a long time coming for the Georgia people.”

The Bulldogs have lost 13 of the last 15 meetings with the Gators.

“It’s not like we’ve broken out of it,” Richt said. “We’ve just eased the pain a little bit.”

HONORS PILING UP: Guard Max Jean-Gilles was named Monday as the SEC’s offensive lineman of the week for the second time this season. Jean-Gilles graded out at 88 percent in a 23-20 win over Arkansas.

His honor marks the fifth time a Bulldog offensive lineman has been honored by the conference, and it’s perhaps the most surprising time since it came a day after Richt criticized the play of his offensive line.

The SEC also honored Arkansas running back Darren McFadden as the conference’s freshman of the week after his 190 rushing yards against the Bulldogs.
