BLOWN CALL: Bryan McClendon’s first career touchdown wasn’t a touchdown after all, SEC director of officials Bobby Gaston said. Thankfully for Georgia’s senior wide receiver, ESPN producers at the game weren’t quick enough to help the officiating crew prove it.

McClendon was given credit for an 18-yard touchdown catch early in the fourth quarter that gave the Bulldogs their final margin of victory in a 34-17 win. The play was reviewed at the time but only using the two camera views the replay official had immediately available. The replay official asked the ESPN production crew at the game to send more angles of the play, Gaston said.

“Then we waited a full minute and they didn’t send anything, and the replay official felt he had to do something,” Gaston said. “Just when (the replay official) got through telling the referee that the call was to stand, then ESPN sent us three more views. One of them clearly showed the ball was trapped.”

At that point, though, the referee on the field had already announced the play stood and Georgia was lined up to kick its extra point, Gaston said. The replay official at the game had been criticized earlier in the year for taking nearly six minutes to rule on a review in the Vanderbilt-Richmond game, Gaston said. The replay in Georgia’s game took just 80 seconds.

“He was sensitive to time,” Gaston said. “We probably acted a little fast in the booth, but one of the primary goals of replay was, let’s not slow down the game.”

Gaston also pointed out the third string ESPN crew was handling Saturday’s game.

“There’s fault on both sides,” he said.

RACER BACKS: Arkansas’ coaching staff tries to build its team on speed, and the surest sign of that is in the team’s media guide. The first fact listed in the biographical information of every incoming freshman is the player’s 40-yard dash time.

The fastest freshman? Parade All-American Darren McFadden, a tailback who reportedly runs a 4.3.

“They’ve got to be the fastest team we’ll play this year top to bottom,” Richt said. “It’s a little intimidating to watch those guys on film and see them run.”

INJURY UPDATE: Safety Greg Blue practiced in a green, no-contact jersey Tuesday but only because the team’s trainers took his regular jersey out of his locker and made him wear the green one, he said. He will play against Arkansas.

“They took it away from me,” he said of his regular jersey.

Linebacker Tony Taylor (elbow) returned to practice in a green jersey but still doesn’t expect to be back until the Florida game on Oct. 29, he said. Gerald Anderson (concussion) also has a good chance to play against the Gators if he has no setbacks, Richt said. Georgia is “hopeful” Kedric Golston can return for the Nov. 12 Auburn game, Richt said. Fullback Tony Milton (shoulder) also practiced in a green jersey but is expected to play against the Razorbacks.
