Richt: We are not thinking about the BCS Premium Story

ATHENS — Georgia coach Mark Richt wouldn’t mind a little controversy in Athens at the end of the season. If his Bulldogs finish undefeated and not in the national championship game, that’s just what he’ll have.

“I hope we play good enough to be mad,” Richt said. “I’d hate it for our players if that happened, but I’d be tickled to death if we could go through a season undefeated.”

The national title race became a hot topic this week due to the release of the initial BCS standings. The Bulldogs were fourth, behind Southern California, Texas and Virginia Tech.

“We were about where everybody thought we’d be,” Richt said. “It’s definitely exciting to have all the possibilities out there in front of you.”

It will be tough for Georgia to get into the BCS’s final game if two of the top three teams end the season undefeated.

“It’s frustrating, but as of now, we’re not focusing on the BCS,” tight end Martrez Milner said.
