Vandy Week: Monday News and Notes Premium Story

ATHENS - News and notes from Georgia's practices.

LITTLE THINGS: One third of Tennessee’s 12 penalties on Saturday were offsides on the defensive line, and that was no accident, Richt said. The Bulldogs use a very similar snap count most of the time, Richt said, but purposely change it up on occasion to tempt defensive linemen.

“We have worked on it a lot,” Richt said. “(Quarterback D.J.) Shockley just has great voice inflection. He’s doing a great job of mixing up the cadence. I bet we’re averaging three a game and maybe even more. We’ve gotten a bunch of people to jump offside just because of our cadence.”

ARKANSAS TIME SET: Jefferson-Pilot has chosen to air Georgia’s Oct. 22 game against Arkansas at Sanford Stadium, meaning the game will kick off at 12:30 p.m. The game will be Georgia’s first appearance on the network this season. The Bulldogs are 20-3 all-time on Jefferson-Pilot.

MORE HONORS: The Bulldogs added two more SEC players of the week to their growing list of accolades Monday. Guard Max Jean-Gilles became the third Bulldog offensive lineman to be named the conference’s offensive lineman of the week, and Thomas Flowers was named special teams player of the week. Jean-Gilles graded out at 89 percent for the game and had five “dominator” blocks. Flowers returned a punt 54 yards for a touchdown.

STATEMENT: Richt called Georgia’s final drive against Tennessee, a nine-play, 73-yard touchdown march on which Thomas Brown carried the ball every play, “about as pretty as I’ve seen. Maybe we should do that more often.”

He estimated it’s only the third or fourth time in his tenure the Bulldogs have scored on a run-only drive.
