Three keys to Georgia vs. Tennessee

ATHENS - Josh Kendall takes a look at the three keys to the Georgia-Tennessee contest.

Shockley stay straight

Georgia’s D.J. Shockley has looked poised and polished in his first four games. This would be a bad time, but not a surprising one, for him to hit his first speed bump as a starter.

Get a quick start

Tennessee just needs a little confidence to get its offense going andGeorgia gave it exactly that last year with two blown coverages on the opening drive. A better start is necessary this year to keep pressure of the offense.

Block somebody

The Bulldogs’ biggest losses in the last several years seem to be marked by one thing -- a quarterback running for his life. The Vols’ defensive line is a tough test that Georgia’s upperclassmen up front must pass.

One to watch

Offensive guard Max Jean-Gilles says his unit is dominant, and they have to prove it today. It starts with him. Jean-Gilles rightly think highly of his ability, and he has high expectations of his place in the NFL Draft next year. This is the kind of game that can impress not only All-American voters but also pro scouts. If the Bulldogs’ line is going to hold up to Tennessee’s aggressive front, they’ll have to follow Jean-Gilles’ lead. His matchups with Jesse Mahelona will be worth watching.

Tennessee comes in more tested than Georgia. The Volunteers haven’t passed all those tests (see Florida and the first half against LSU), but at least they’ve survived them. The Bulldogs will be in their first marquee matchup of the season. On top of that, they’ll be facing the best defense they’ve seen all year with a first-year starter at quarterback, still unproven wide receivers and underclassmen carrying the ball.

Winner: Tennessee
