Practice Notes: Tennessee Tuesday

Posted Oct 4, 2005

ATHENS - With last week's open date allowing them to work a day ahead of their traditional game-week preparation, the No. 4-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (4-0, 2-0) practiced in shoulder pads, helmets and shorts for slightly more than two hours on Tuesday afternoon in Athens.

The Dawgs generally utilize Tuesday as their lone full pads session during the week but did so yesterday.

"The scout teams had two good days," head coach Mark Richt said. "We needed them to work hard for us and they have and I appreciate that. I think we've got a pretty good level of energy in practice, which is what we're hoping for. For the next two days, we'll be in shorts and have a couple of dress rehearsals. Thursday, of course, we'll be in the stadium with it as loud as we can get it."

Richt held his game-week press session earlier on Tuesday and discussed the significance of the Tennessee matchup and facing the Vols.

"This is a big game this week -- no doubt about it," Richt said. "There is so much riding on it for both teams. If we win, we continue to be one of the conferenceĀ¹s top teams and if we lose, we lose control of the SEC East. They are not a good team, but a great football team. They recruit great players and coach them up while they are there."

Georgia will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., this Saturday to face No. 7-ranked Tennessee (3-1, 2-1) at Neyland Stadium. That contest will be televised nationally by CBS with kick-off slated for 3:30 p.m. ET.
