ATHENS – What the Bulldogs said after their 23-10 win over Mississippi State.

“If they didn’t have Shockley it would have been completely different. It’s hard to defend a quarterback like that.” – Mississippi State cornerback David Heard, who was responsible for two pass break-ups on the night. Shockley, meanwhile, had his most impressive outing since blistering Boise State the opening weekend of the season.

“We made it more interesting than we should have tonight” – Georgia Head Coach Mark Richt about the 23-10 win over State. Georgia squandered several scoring opportunities and sputtered in the red zone.

“Those guys pounded them.” – Junior tight end Leonard Pope about the Georgia defense. The Bulldog defense held Mississippi State in check nearly all night. The lone mistake came late in the ball game when State drove the field to score its lone touchdown of the night.

“We have got to quit helping the defenses we play.” – Richt again, this time talking about Georgia’s ineffectiveness in the red zone and the squandering of other scoring opportunities.

“He couldn’t make it.” – A Georgia official explaining where mascot UGA VI was. The bulldog stayed in Savannah due to Hurricane Rita.
