Georgia beats ULM: Three keys revisited

ATHENS - Josh Kendall's review of the three keys to a Georgia win over ULM.

Show up

The Bulldogs, by their own admission, whiffed on this one. Georgia led just 20-7 late in the third quarter against a 38-point underdog.

Stay healthy

The good news for Georgia is it was able to rest many players who might have pushed themselves to play against an SEC opponent. The only new injury suffered was by backup safety Drew Williams, who is out for the year.

Get some offensive confidence

The Bulldogs are still searching for a catalyst game. They achieved the balance they had sought -- 280 rushing yards, 263 passing yards -- but they wanted more against a weak opponent.

Notable: Georgia coach Mark Richt said he wasn’t surprised to see Tennessee-Florida game end without many points being scored. The Gators beat the Vols 16-7 in Gainesville and neither team gained more than 250 yards of total offense. “Great defenses with speed make it very difficult to have a good offensive day,” he said. “For the most part, the offensive teams in our league are not going to be one of the top teams in the nation because of the defenses we face. We face probably the fastest and strongest and best-coached defenses in the country. Because of it, we’re not going to be running up and down the field.”

Quotable: “It was not that bad of a day at all. It was actually a pretty dang good day.” -- Mark Richt on his team’s performance against Louisiana-Monroe.

Injuries: Running back Thomas Brown (shoulder), wide receiver Sean Bailey (shoulder), linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (ankle) and linebacker Brandon Miller (leg) all are expected to play this week. Linebacker Jarvis Jackson (thumb) could play even though he will be less than two weeks removed from surgery to repair a torn thumb ligament. Walk-on safety Drew Williams will not play the rest of the season after tearing the ACL in his right knee, Richt said Sunday.
