Fullback Brannan Southerland deserves a big part of the credit for the Bulldogs’ 238 rushing yards against South Carolina, the team’s highest total since last year’s Vanderbilt game.

Southerland had six knockdown blocks, Richt said, and he also got to carry the ball one time for 1 yard.

“He really blew up in that game for us,” quarterback D.J. Shockley said. “He was man on man against their linebackers, and he won just about every time. There were a couple of times he really ejected the guys from those holes.”

ANOTHER NEW BULLDOG

Georgia’s verbal commitment list for the Class of 2006 grew to 19 on Tuesday when the commitment of Norcross fullback Fred Munzenmaier was made public. Munzenmaier, 6-foot-1, 230 pounds, is considered the 43rd-best prospect overall in the state according to Scout.com, and a three-star player. He also had offers from Duke, Georgia Tech and Mississippi State the Web site said.

SLOW RETURN

Offensive tackle Michael Turner returned to Georgia’s lineup against South Carolina but only on field goal attempts. Offensive line coach Neil Callaway said he expects Turner to get into the regular rotation, at least for a few snaps, this week.
