ATHENS - Linebacker Dannell Ellerbe didn’t practice Wednesday and is unsure if he’ll be able to play Saturday when Georgia takes on Louisiana-Monroe.

That’s bad news for the seventh-ranked Bulldogs who will have just six scholarship linebackers if Ellerbe’s sprained left ankle doesn’t heal in the next three days.

“I can’t tell right now,” Ellerbe said. “It’s getting better every day, but I don’t know how it’s going to feel Saturday.”

Two of Georgia’s six healthy linebackers are Jamario Smith and converted safety Olaolu Sanni Osomo. Smith was only awarded a scholarship this year. Regular starter Jarvis Jackson watched practice wearing a large cast on his right hand and wrist. He had surgery Tuesday to repair a torn thumb ligament.

He wasn’t the only one on the sidelines.

Backup offensive guard Chester Adams suffered a broken nose during practice Tuesday and had to sit out. He should play Saturday, coach Mark Richt said.

True freshman Kade Weston also watched from the sideline due to a hand injury that couldn’t have come at a much worse time for him. Weston hasn’t played this year, and, if the wrist injury keeps him out this game, it will hurt his chances to get in all season.

Defensive line coach Rodney Garner indicated Weston is questionable from the a health standpoint but was unwilling to rule out the possibility Weston will get a game this year.

“There isn’t enough (depth) there to be able to say you know you’re going to be able to redshirt him,” Garner said.

Third-string tight end Tripp Chandler, another true freshman, also is questionable this week due to a bruised hip. Chandler has played in one game this year but could still take a medical redshirt if the injury lingers, Richt said.

Defensive tackle Marquis Elmore (bruised shoulder) also didn’t participate, but he should be healthy enough to play, Garner said.

Starting tailback Thomas Brown (shoulder) practiced in a green, no-contact jersey. He is listed as questionable for the game.
