Don’t get too cocky

The Bulldogs’ flopped on this one. Running from the wishbone on the first two plays after your base offense looked like a juggernaut the previous week? And, Georgia’s wideouts seemed to think South Carolina’s defense was going to be as easy to exploit as Boise State’s.

Don’t get beat on perimeter

Georgia is 0-for-2 in not giving up big plays. Boise State did it on the ground. South Carolina did it through the air. Four Gamecock receivers had at least one catch of 24 yards or longer, and South Carolina converted a third-and-18 on its scoring drive that could have tied the game.

Hold onto the ball

D.J. Shockley threw two picks, one of which was run back for a touchdown, and it could have been more if Ko Simpson had held onto the ball. The defense got two more interceptions, leaving the Bulldogs’ turnover margin at plus-five.

Notable: Westlake High School’s Kiante Tripp, who attended Saturday’s game, became the Bulldogs’ 18th verbal commitment this weekend, according to Scout.com. “We’re really excited about the interest that we’re generating here,” Coach Mark Richt said. “We’re happy with how things are going (in recruiting) right now. This is a class where we need to sign players at every single position. We should get some numbers all across the board.” Tripp also had offers from Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Alabama, Florida and Ohio State. … Richt praised cornerback Paul Oliver on Sunday for getting up after being chop blocked and making the final tackle of the game for the Bulldogs. “As a coach, you’re like, ‘Boy those mat drills paid off because when you do the mats, you have to get off the ground pretty quick,’” he said. … Richt praised the play of place-kicker Brandon Coutu and punter Gordon Ely-Kelso after the game.

Injuries: Linebacker Dannell Ellerbe missed most of the game with a sprained ankle, and the team will know more about his status today, Richt said. Freshman wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi, who had his second straight impressive showing, suffered a bruised hip on a diving catch but is probable for the upcoming week.
