ATHENS – Every dog has its day. Uga VI – the University of Georgia’s beloved mascot – has had more than his share, and this weekend he’ll have two more.

On Friday night, Uga VI will attend the first public screening of “Damn Good Dog,” a dogumentary filmed and produced by Athens-based Nowhere Productions. On Saturday evening, he’ll watch his Georgia Bulldogs make short work of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks.

The screening will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Masters Hall at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education, and will be open to the public. The party starts at 7 p.m., with a cash bar and free popcorn available. Uga VI, owner Sonny Seiler and “Damn Good Dog” Director and Producer Erica McCarthy will host a question and answer session after the movie. Tickets are $5 and available at the door.

Damn Good Dog is the story of Uga, the Georgia Bulldogs’ official mascot, and the Seiler family of Savannah, who have maintained the famed line of English bulldogs as family pets since 1956. Sports Illustrated’s “America’s Number One College Mascot,” Uga is more than just a pretty face.

The dogumentary captures Uga’s greatest moments, from winning the National Championship to his attendance at the Heisman Trophy Award Ceremony with Herschel Walker, to his famous leap at an Auburn player. We also go behind the hedges as Uga stars in the film version of the best-selling novel Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Uga even narrates the film himself in the voice of legendary Bulldog announcer Larry Munson. Shot in HDTV (Hunker Down Television) and independently produced in Athens, “Damn Good Dog” is a story of loyalty, dedication, and doggone fun.
