ATHENS - News and notes from Georgia's practices.

KATRINA EFFECT: Bulldog walk-on John DeGenova, a senior defensive lineman from Kenner, La., is hosting his parents in town for at least a few days. DeGenova’s parents were forced to flee their home, a suburb of New Orleans, due to the flooding caused by Hurricane Katrina.

Richt also got a call Wednesday from former Florida State tailback Sean Jackson, whose has family memories from Louisiana who are stranded in Houston.

PRACTICE REPORT: The Bulldogs, who are ahead of schedule this week since it’s the first game of the season, held a walk-through practice Wednesday afternoon. In a normal game week, the Bulldogs hold their walk-through on Thursday.

“It was kind of a dress rehearsal for the dress rehearsal,” Richt said.

He’s glad to have another one today, he said, considering, “we made more mistakes today than we should have at this point.”
