Georgia's 1980 National Champions To Be Honored

ATHENS - The 25th anniversary of Georgia¹s 1980 National Championship season will be commemorated throughout the Bulldogs¹ 2005 home games at Sanford Stadium. In addition, a special logo for the 25th anniversary has been created and will be featured on all items associated with the 1980 football team on sale throughout the fall.

³The 1980 National Championship season is special to all Georgia fans,² said Alan Thomas, UGA¹s Assistant AD for Marketing. ³The significance of the 25-year anniversary creates the perfect opportunity to pull together memorabilia and keepsakes we hope all Bulldog fans will enjoy.²

Fans will have the opportunity to collect trading cards and souvenir cups at each of Georgia¹s six home games, while select contests from 1980 campaign will be featured with a video recap during the Bulldogs¹ 2005 home dates as well.

Sets of seven trading cards of players and coaches from the 1980 team will be packaged with each game program for Georgia¹s 2005 home dates, creating a 42-card collector¹s edition. Those seven-card sets also will be available at UGA Bookstores at the Tate Student Center and on Baxter Street during the game week of each respective contest with a minimum purchase of Kodak products.

Each home game also will feature a different 32-once souvenir cup highlighting significant performances from 1980, which will be available at concessions stands. The cup for Georgia¹s season opener against Boise State will include artwork of head coach Vince Dooley being carried off the field following the Bulldogs¹ 38-20 win over Georgia Tech in the regular-season finale.

During each 2005 home game, a video board flashback will highlight a specific game from the 1980 season. During the Boise State contest, the video will feature 1980 season-opener at Tennessee. The final flashback from Georgia¹s Sugar Bowl win over Notre Dame will be shown at the Kentucky game on Nov. 19 ‹ the same day the entire 1980 squad will be in Athens for a reunion.
