Practice Notes: Boise State Monday

Posted Aug 29, 2005

ATHENS - The 2005 college football schedule will kick off over the next few days, with just two games pitting teams ranked in the Top 25 against each other. One of those games will involve Georgia as the No. 13 Bulldogs entertain No. 18 Boise State. The other will be played on Labor Day as No. 9 Miami visits No. 14 Florida State.

On Monday, Georgia coach Mark Richt talked about his team's season-opening match-up.

³Boise State has kind of captured a lot of the nation¹s attention with what they¹ve done the last couple of years,² Richt said following his team¹s full-pads workout on Monday. ³And now they¹re playing Georgia, and it¹s a big deal.²

Monday¹s practice began a couple of hours earlier than scheduled because of rain in the forecast. Fortunately for the Bulldogs, they did not have to deal with any precipitation.

³It was kind of hot and humid. It was a good heat day,² Richt said. ³I thought the players looked a little sluggish. Maybe they thought it would a hurricane day (and practice would be canceled), but it didn¹t turn out that way. They fought through it. It wasn¹t too bad.²

Freshman Mohamed Massaquoi, who has been slowed by a hamstring injury, ³looked OK,² according to Richt.

³I¹m not sure if he ran every drill, but I didn¹t see anything to think he went backward,² Richt said. ³He doesn¹t look like he did before the injury. I think he looks a little tentative. The other guys have gotten all the reps and they know what to do and he hasn¹t done an awful lot. But if there¹s a spot we¹re certain he knows what to do, we might insert him, so I¹m not saying he won¹t play.²

Richt also said kicker Andy Bailey (shoulder) could return to practice on Tuesday.

Richt announced the Dog Walk will be held at 3:45 p.m., which is an hour and 45 minutes before the game.

Also, due to construction in Stegeman Coliseum, the Alumni Association has been forced to cancel the First Friday event held the last few years.
