Boise State Week - Monday News and Notes

Posted Aug 29, 2005

ATHENS - News and notes from Georgia's practices.

The Bulldogs moved Monday’s practice ahead almost two hours in an attempt to beat the rains pushed in by Hurricane Katrina, and they were successful.

“They looked a little sluggish today,” Richt said. “I think they thought it was going to be a hurricane day.”

INJURY UPDATE: Wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi (hamstring) returned to practice Monday, at least a day earlier than expected. Massaquoi, a true freshman, ran routes with the rest of the wide receivers, he said.

“I really tried to push the limits and see what I could do,” he said. “I just want to get back in the swing of things. Whatever happens, happens.”

Richt wouldn’t rule out Massaquoi playing in the first game but said it would have to be in a specific situation.

“He didn’t look like he did before the injury,” Richt said.

Linebackers Danny Verdun Wheeler (ankle) and Dannell Ellerbe (shoulder) and defensive tackle Ray Gant (knee) also returned to practice.

“This was (Verdun Wheeler’s) best practice today,” linebackers coach John Jancek said. “He was moving around much better.” Despite that, Verdun Wheeler remains behind Brandon Miller at strongside linebacker, Jancek said, and the depth chart is unlikely to change at this point in the week.

TEAM PLAYER: Backup quarterback Joe Tereshinski isn’t lobbying for a quarterback rotation like the Bulldogs have had the past three seasons, he said.

“Shockley’s coming out every day and doing really well. He’s paid his dues,” Tereshinski said. “I’ll be ready to back him up, but he’s the clear-cut No. 1.”

Tereshinski, a junior, has played near the end of several games in his career but has yet to throw his first collegiate pass.
