Boise State gets ready for Shockley

ATHENS — Boise State doesn't have a lot of film to look at in preparation for Georgia quarterback D.J. Shockley. Unless you count its own practice film.

"The nice thing for our defense is they have to face the same thing every day in practice," Broncos coach Dan Hawkins said.

Like the athletic Shockley, Boise State junior Jared Zabransky is a threat to run on any play. The junior gained 570 rushing yards last year (he gave 244 of them back in lost yardage plays, including sacks) and scored 13 rushing touchdowns.

Zabransky's hard-nose style has impressed the Bulldogs' coaches. "I'm not going to start comparing him to people we've played, but he does remind me of a couple of guys and those guys are playing the National Football League," defensive coordinator Willie Martinez said. "There are times you say, ‘He's fast,' and there are times you say, ‘He's really fast.'"

The same could be said for Shockley, who will be starting the first game of his career against the Broncos. His athleticism will add a dimension the Bulldogs' offense didn't have the last four years under David Greene.

"You have to anticipate more sprint out in the package," Hawkins said. "The system is probably going to be largely the same with a few more tricks." Recommended Stories
