Raley not pleased with spot

ATHENS - With A.J. Bryant, T.J. Gartrell and Kenneth Harris battling for the Nos. 3-5 wide receiver positions, junior Mario Raley is feeling a little left out. Richt has praised Raley at times this year, but Raley is not pleased with his spot in the receiver rotation, which is no better than sixth.

“How can I put this?” he said Saturday. “I’m not happy about it, but I’ll play my role right now because I know I was injured.”

Mario Raley missed more than a week of practice due to a hamstring strain. He was in the starting rotation before that, he said.

“In all honesty, I’m not pleased, but I’ll play my role until I get it back,” he said.

Raley, who missed all of spring practice due to a shoulder injury, has 11 catches for 130 yards in two years with the team. He thinks he will make a quick move up the depth chart once he shows what he can do on the playing field, he said.

“I think (wide receivers coach John) Eason knows that, too,” Raley said. “He just doesn’t want me to know it.”

Raley did not take a shot at any of his teammates. In fact, he praised his fellow wide receivers.

“I believe we’re going to shock some people,” he said. “Coach Richt said he was looking to run the old-school Florida State offense, and we’ve got the legs to do it. He said that at the start of camp. That’s what the wide receivers were told.”
