Weston getting back healthy

ATHENS – Kade Weston spoke with Dean Legge for a short time after one of Georgia's fall practices.

Dean Legge: Can you talk a little about this fall and how it’s been going for you? I know that you have had to deal with some injuries.

Kade Weston: I started off ok, but I had to treat the injury, and I know that the trainers did a good job with that. They got me back as soon as possible. Now I am out here trying to work as hard as I can to get better every day – there is always room for improvement.

Do you think that people depending on you and Jeff (Owens), adds to the urgency of this fall for you?

Knowing all of that brings some pressure. But some of the bigger guys and older guys like Gerald (Anderson) and Kedric (Golston) are helping me out, and letting me know how it’s going to be.

What’s the biggest change from high school to college football?

The heat--the work out here is very different, the hours you have to put in are different--pad level and staying low.

Can you talk about staying low – a guy your size, you and Golston – it’s got to be hard staying low.

It’s difficult, but everyday in practice Coach Garner is saying “Pad level, pad level” and it just sinks into your head. If you don’t get low then one of the guys out there that’s the same size as you is going to pull you down. Pad level is a big factor.

How glad will you be to start playing soon rather than beating up one another?

It’s nice because your body gets hot after a while, but you have to be mentally tough and keep doing it. You can’t quit. If you want to be champions you have to practice like champions – the coaches stress that to us.
