2005 Fall Camp: Day 14 News and notes

ATHENS - News and notes from Georgia's 14th practice of fall camp.

Richt and the football team recently donated $10,000 to the athletic department to be used for a women’s athletic scholarship. The money represents the proceeds from the team’s Football 101 for Women camps.

BIASED BALLOT?: The new Harris poll, which will be part of the BCS equation, released its list of voters Monday, and former South Carolina coach Lou Holtz will participate. Richt isn’t worried about having an old rival on the list, even one who publicly said this preseason that he expects the Bulldogs to have a down year.

“It doesn’t matter,” Richt said. “If you win, you move up, if you don’t, you move down.”

He added that he considered Holtz “a man of integrity.”

Ex-UGA athletic administrator Dick Bestwick, formerly the head coach at Virginia, also is a voter.

HAPPY RETURNS: Based on Monday’s practice rotation, freshman Bryan Evans and Tyson Browning will be the Bulldogs’ No. 2 kickoff return unit behind starters Thomas Brown and Bryan McClendon. Danny Ware and Thomas Flowers probably will be the third team.

Richt is confident his team’s kickoff return units will be better than they were last year, but there’s not much choice. The Bulldogs were 112th in the nation last year with 16.5 yards per return.

“We’ll wait and see, but I’m pretty optimistic,” Richt said.
