Day 11 practice report

Posted Aug 17, 2005

ATHENS – After a morning practice and Georgia’s annual watermelon cutting, the Bulldogs held a two-hour scrimmage in Sanford Stadium on Wednesday afternoon to conclude two-a-day workouts for the year.

Classes begin on the UGA campus on Thursday morning.

The defense outscored the offense on the afternoon due to three turnovers. Defensive end Marcus Howard and LB Marcus Washington scored on recovered fumbles and DE Charles Johnson scored on an interception return.

On offense, QB D.J. Shockley scored on a rush and threw a touchdown pass.

Following the scrimmage head coach Mark Richt said RB Kregg Lumpkin (knee) looked rusty for two plays but ran the ball extremely well.

“I think today really helped his confidence with his knee,” Richt said. “His assignments on blocking were the rusty parts, but his running was not rusty. Danny Ware ran good and so did (Thomas Brown). But Kregg didn’t disappoint us with his running today.”

Richt also said he was pleased with the camp FB Tony Milton has had so far.

“He’s not the biggest fullback in America, but he’s holding up well. He’s playing the I-formation fullback position,” said Richt.
