2005 Fall Camp: Day 7 News and notes

ATHENS - News and notes from Georgia's seventh day of fall camp.

PRACTICE UPDATE The Dogs were dragging Friday, one of the hottest days of camp so far.

But Georgia remained healthy and basically free of any new hamstring ailments or cramps. The Bulldogs finished the 20-period session with two more condition sessions, and players were slow to trudge off the field.

"It was really a tough, grueling practice because of the weather," Richt said. "They fought through it real good. It was all they could do to get back to the huddle a couple times. They fought it.

"That's what's gonna happen in these ballgames."

Richt then peeked at his watch — it said nearly 6 p.m. — and looked ahead.

"Be about midway through the first quarter, huh?" he said, peeking ahead to what the heat could be like when Boise State visits on Sept. 3.

Richt said guard Josh Brock took a shot to the head, but he wasn't sure if the junior had suffered a concussion.

TICKETS ARE EN ROUTE UGA ticket manager Tim Cearley said Friday that all season tickets should be in the mail by early next week.

About 3,000 tickets have been sent with about 30,000 going out over the next few days.

"Everything will be in UPS hands no later than Monday," Cearley said. "Some people have them in hand, others will be getting them on Monday."

Cearley said the process has changed somewhat with points needed as well as how many tickets each buyer gets. The most notable difference is that each buyer gets fewer tickets, which allows more people to purchase a package.

Cearley said that not long ago, a person needn't have contributed any money to UGA to have a chance a ticket. No more.

"That's not possible anymore," he said. "Now, all contributors, all the tickets go to them. If people don't give any money, we don't even bother sending them an order form. Anybody who gave at least $250 this year got in the stadium."

He said the new procedure has drastically cut down on the amount of money refunded. Last year, Georgia returned $3.19 million worth of checks. This year, that figure dropped to about $800,000.

Tickets have been returned from Boise State, Mississippi State, Kentucky and Vanderbilt. The last MSU tickets were sold Friday.

"We've refunded less, but more peope are getting in," he said. "And the demand hasn't dropped."

Bryant on battling the second injury of his UGA career, a dislocated shoulder suffered Wednesday. He missed time last year with a foot injury, and this time will be out about three weeks.
