Bryant hurts shoulder

ATHENS — A key member of Georgia's wide receiving corps won't be with the Bulldogs when they strap on the pads today for the first time this preseason.

Sophomore A.J. Bryant, the former quarterback from Peach County, had his day end early in Wednesday's practice when he suffered a shoulder injury on a punt return drill.

"Don't know how serious that is yet," said Georgia head coach Mark Richt. "We'll find out more (today), I would think. ... I don't think he'll pop back into practice (today)." Richt said Bryant got either an X-ray or an MRI.

"Sometimes you can't just snap your fingers and get an MRI," Richt said. "Sometimes you think it's bad, and the

guy pops up and is ready to go. Sean Bailey took a pretty good shot, looked kinda bad, and he had the wind knocked out of him."

Bryant had risen a bit above the crowded wide receiver group to become the third receiver in a three-receiver formation, working with the first string. He caught three passes for 58 yards last year.

Kenneth Harris, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound redshirt freshman, will assume Bryant's spot.
