HOOVER – Here’s a look at the day Florida Head Coach Urban Meyer and the Gators had at the SEC’s annual Media Day event.

Last season: 7-5

Last game vs. Georgia: 31-24 loss

Series Record: Georgia leads 46-35-2

Most memorable Georgia win: 1980 – Buck Belue to Lindsey Scott; enough said.

Most painful Georgia loss: 2002 – Georgia loses to Florida; it was the Dawgs’ only blemish of the season. Georgia would likely have played for the national title against Miami instead of Ohio State.

Starters returning: 14

Best player: Chris Leak

Biggest Weakness: Running game

2005’s big question: Will Leak be able to run Meyer’s new offense?

Inside the numbers vs. Georgia (as seen in the upcoming Dawg Post 2005 Season Preview):

1

That’s how many times Georgia has outscored Florida in the fourth quarter of games since 1998. The #4 Bulldogs outscored the #21 Gators 10-6 in the fourth quarter of the 2003 game, but still lost 16-13. Since 1998 Georgia has been outscored 59-23 in the fourth quarter of their games against Florida. The Gators have held Georgia scoreless in the fourth quarter four times (2002, 2001, 1999 and 1998) in that same time period. Florida has scored at least six points in the fourth quarter of every game against Georgia since 1998.

SEC Media Day’s quotes to note: “This isn’t going to be Urban Meyer’s offense – it’s going to be Chris Leak’s offense.” – Florida Head Coach Urban Meyer on the hype surrounding his offense and its production at Utah.

“We didn’t discuss golf – we really only talked about our families, but not football.” – Meyer again, this time responding to a question about if he and former Florida Coach Steve Spurrier have talked about football at Florida.

“We have these things called mat drills.” – Meyer about his team’s preparations for the 2005 season.

“That kid works.” – Meyer on his quarterback, Chris Leak, when asked about comparing him to the number one pick in the 2005 NFL Draft Alex Smith.

“There where really pretty girls in the stands… and it was hot.” – Meyer about his experience playing against Florida while in college.

“I call our strength coach about six times a day and I want to know is: How is there attitude?” – Meyer talking about off-season training at Florida.

Legge’s projected SEC finish: 3rd SEC East

Legge’s All-SEC Gators: OL Randy Hand, C Mike Degory, WR Andre Caldwell
